Poof — Privacy Policy

Poof is a browser extension by FrootyStudios that lets you hide unwanted elements — ads, popups, banners, sidebars, and other clutter — on the web pages you visit. This policy explains what information Poof handles and how it is protected.

In short: Poof stores the elements you hide and your settings locally in your browser so pages stay decluttered. Poof does not send that information to FrootyStudios, sell it, use it for advertising, or use it to build a browsing profile.

Information Poof handles

So you can point at and hide parts of a page, Poof's content script runs on the pages you open and reads the page's structure (its DOM). When you choose to hide an element, Poof saves a small record so it stays hidden on return visits:

  • A CSS selector that identifies the element
  • A short snippet of its visible text, used only to label the item in your list
  • The element's type (for example, “Link” or “Image”)
  • The URL of the page you hid it on

These records are grouped by the site's hostname. Poof also stores your settings — which features are on, the list of sites you've turned Poof on for, and your pointer-colour choices.

Chrome Web Store policy may classify page URLs and website content as user data. Poof uses this information only to provide the element-hiding features described above.

Collection, transmission, and storage

Everything above is stored locally on your device using your browser's extension storage (chrome.storage.local). It stays on your device and is never uploaded.

Poof does not transmit this information to FrootyStudios or to any analytics, advertising, or tracking service, and keeps no external database of it. The extension makes no network requests with your data and contains no remote code.

Permissions and why they are used

  • storage — save your hidden elements and settings locally on your device.
  • activeTab, tabs — identify the current tab and site so hides are scoped to the right page and the side panel can open for it.
  • sidePanel — provide Poof's interface in the browser's side panel.
  • webNavigation — list the frames in the current tab so elements you hide inside embedded content (iframes) also appear in your panel.
  • Access to the web pages you visit — run on http/https pages so you can hide elements on them. Poof only reads and modifies the page you are actively using, and only stores what you explicitly hide.

Poof does not access your cookies, passwords, authentication tokens, downloads, bookmarks, clipboard contents, or personal communications.

Third parties and remote code

Poof contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDK and does not download or execute remote code. Its content scripts and background logic are packaged with the extension. Poof does not integrate with any external service to operate.

Optional uninstall feedback

When you uninstall Poof, your browser may open an optional feedback form hosted by Google Forms. You may close the page without submitting anything. If you choose to submit a response, the information you enter is provided to FrootyStudios through Google Forms and is also processed by Google under Google's applicable privacy terms. This feedback is used only to understand problems and improve Poof, and is entirely voluntary.

Data sharing and sale

FrootyStudios does not sell Poof user data. Poof does not share your hidden-element records or settings with FrootyStudios, advertisers, data brokers, or any other third party. Voluntary uninstall feedback is handled as described above.

Data retention and deletion

Your hidden elements and settings stay in your browser's local storage until you remove them. You are always in control:

  • Use Bring back, Remove, or Bring back all in the panel to delete individual items or clear a site.
  • Uninstalling the extension removes its local storage entirely.
  • You can also clear it through your browser's extension or site-data controls.

Aside from feedback you choose to submit after uninstalling (see above), nothing is stored off your device, so there is no server-side copy of your hidden elements or settings for FrootyStudios to hold or delete. Children's privacy

Poof is a general-purpose browser utility and is not directed to children. FrootyStudios does not knowingly use Poof to collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If Poof's data practices or this policy change, the updated policy will be published on this page with a new “Last updated” date. Material changes will be disclosed as required by applicable Chrome Web Store policies.
